Most insurance companies require chimneys to be swept as part of their terms and conditions. As a registered ICS chimney sweep, once I have swept and smoke tested your chimney I will issue a Chimney Safety Certificate.
Chimneys should be swept on a regular basis to remove soot, creosote and other debris and allow for safe operation. All chimneys need to be swept at least once a year, although if the chimney is used often twice a year is recommended.
Clean chimneys burn more efficiently, which will save you money, as well as reducing the impact on the environment.

In addition, each year in England, approximately 40-50 deaths occur from carbon monoxide poisoning and a further 400 people are admitted to hospital suffering from carbon monoxide poising from chimneys that have not been swept. Carbon monoxide symptoms include: headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, memory loss, lethargy, breathlessness, collapse, loss of consciousness. In severe cases it can lead to permanent damage to health or even death.
Many of these fires, deaths or symptoms could have been avoided by having the chimneys swept regularly.
I am fully qualified and registered through Sweep Safe.
Regular sweeping of chimneys and flues prevents fires and allows deadly gases to safely vent away. Last year the UK Fire Services attended around 7,700 chimney fires.
